Speaker: Dr. Wayne Sodano

Organic acids refer to a family of compounds that are intermediates in a variety of metabolic pathways. Many of these intermediate compounds are normally found in the urine of health individuals. Increased levels of specific organic acids or elevations of combinations of specific organic acids are often seen in metabolic disorders in which there is a blockage or blockages in certain metabolic pathways. Disorders of organic acid metabolism have various clinical presentations and ages of onset. Many of the blocked metabolic pathways can be treated nutritionally once they have been identified.
