APCR is the most commonly observed abnormality among patients with venous thromboembolism.

Draw to the proper fill level (do not overfill or underfill) because the correct ratio of blood to citrate is critical (9:1). Mix by gentle inversion 3 – 4 times.

Centrifuge for 15 min at 1500 x g within 60 minutes of collection. Remove plasma using a plastic pipette being careful not to disturb the buffy coat. Repeat centrifugation at 1500 x g for 15 minutes to assure complete platelet removal.

Dispense the plasma into labeled, screw-top plastic tube(s) using a plastic transfer pipette. Freeze immediately.

Stable for 6 months at -20 C. Specimen must remain frozen at all times. Avoid hemolysis.
Do not submit a hemolyzed specimen, or a one having microclots present.
