Use: The most common setting for finding anti-centromere antibodies is in patients with a limited cutaneous form of scleroderma. Anti-centromere abs are found in 22% of patients with systemic sclerosis and in 12% of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, and are rarely present in normal individuals.
Methodology: Indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA)
Collection Instructions:
Specimen: Serum
Volume: 1 mL
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.)
Container: Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube
Collection: Separate serum from cells within one hour of collection. Transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
