Overview:

Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is used in the diagnoses and monitoring of hepatobiliary disorders such as fatty, alcoholic and chronic liver diseases.

GGT is an indirect measure of increased oxidative stress and moderately elevated levels are associated with CVD, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia, and fatty liver disease. Significantly elevated or high-risk values are observed in patients with chronic liver and alcoholic liver diseases.
