Overview:

Diagnosis of measles infection.

Measles virus can often be isolated from respiratory specimens during the later part of the prodromal period and during the early stages of rash development. Virus may be isolated from urine as late as the fourth to the seventh day after rash onset. Failure to isolate measles virus does not rule out infection.
