Patient Preparation:
Avoid eating or drinking within 30 minutes of collecting sample.
Collection Instructions:
Place transport tube standing up on a flat surface. Peel open package containing the swab and remove swab. Unscrew transport tube cap before collecting sample. Rub swab tip firmly against the inside of your cheek 15-20 times. Rotate swab tip as you are rubbing. Cover your entire cheek from top to bottom and side to side. Pick up tube and hold steady in one hand. Slowly twist the swab into the transport tube with a corkscrew motion. Move the swab up and down rapidly inside the tube 10-15 times without moving the swab out of the liquid. Remove the swab by slowly twisting it out with a corkscrew motion. Discard the swab. Replace the cap of the transport tube tightly. Place the transport tube into the biohazard bag. Seal the biohazard bag and place it into the prepaid return mailer.
