The positive cutoff has been set to the equivalent for an IFA titer of 1:256. If only one specimen is submitted, a positive is presumptive supporting evidence of exposure.

Overview:

This system tests for L pneumophila serogroups 1 through 6. It does not test for nonpneumophila, or atypical, Legionella species. A diagnosis should not be made on the basis of anti-Legionella serology results alone; test results should be interpreted in conjunction with the clinical evaluation and other diagnostic procedures.

Send paired serum samples, one during the acute stage, and the second, three to six weeks later, during the convalescent stage.

Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube.

Maintain specimen at room temperature.
